PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
